Captain Elementary School
Did you know there is an elementary school right near our apartment? Mel and I pass it on our walks, and I love saying hi to the students on the playground. So, I asked her if we could read our book at the school, and Dr. Koblitz was happy to do a read-aloud with his class. There weren’t any children with hearing loss in the first/second grade classroom, but all of the students were very special in their own ways, just like me. Even though some of them wore glasses, spoke different languages with their families, and had different hobbies, ALL of them could relate to the idea of just being proud to be yourself!
As they read, the kids made predictions. One little girl thought that my character would be scared of Dr. Hearwell, and she was surprised that we actually had a lot of fun together! Now she knows that having her hearing tested isn’t scary- it can even be fun! You might even get a treat at the end!
