How You Can Share Sophie’s Message
Did you know that YOU can read Sophie’s Tales in your school?
My friend Sadie got the book and toy as a birthday present from her Grandpa, who is an audiologist just like Dr. Hearwell! She decided to share the story with her classmates, and they loved learning about cochlear implants with her!
If you want to share the book with your school, here are some ideas: Talk to your teacher about reading the book in class. Talk to your librarian about making the book part of your school library. Play “that’s just the way we hear” on your Smartboard. Talk about how children with hearing loss listen to music and about turning closed captioning on when watching TV. Bring in the Sophie toy who wears an implant and compare her to the real Sophie (me!) who does not have hearing loss. Discuss differences and diversity, and make sure everyone knows that it’s okay to be different!
