Secret Readers!
Today I made my return visit to cousin Daniel’s school, Cantiague Elementary. Last year I read with his kindergarten class, but this year we moved up to first grade! Mel and I were the “secret readers.” I tried to tiptoe in very quietly, barely lifting a paw, but I was sliding along the slippery floors! When we arrived, I wagged my tail at cousin Daniel, who was holding his pretend Sophie stuffed animal with a cochlear implant! It’s supersoft, just like me! Mel told the class about how Daniel’s sister and mom both have cochlear implants, and his dad wears hearing aids! She also told them that I was a therapy dog. The kids
did a great job reading along with Mel. I love when they all say my favorite sound, “Sophie, come!”
After the story, a lot of the kids told stories about their own dogs at home. One little girl even told us how learning about hearing loss in our family helped her learn about things that parents and kids share in her family. Everyone had a tail-wagging time!
